What is the SECRET to Successful Goal Setting? We all have it!

ree

So…..What is the secret system that we all possess that helps you in your pursuit of your goals. What is this magical system?

The RAS system — short for Reticular Activating System — is a powerful concept in neuroscience and psychology that plays a major role in goal achievement and focus. Let’s break this down:

What the RAS Is -

The Reticular Activating System is a network of neurons in your brainstem that acts as a filter for information.

  • We’re constantly bombarded with data — sounds, sights, sensations, smells, etc.

  • The RAS decides what’s important and what to ignore.

It does this based on what you consciously (and unconsciously) believe to be important — which includes your goals, beliefs, and your dominant thought patterns.

How the RAS Affects Goal Getting

Your RAS doesn’t make any decisions — it shows you what aligns with your focus.

Example:

  • If you decide to buy a red Tesla, suddenly you start seeing red Teslas       everywhere.

  • They were always there — Your RAS has now been “tuned” to notice them.

The same thing happens with opportunities, ideas, and people that align with your goals. - An exciting concept hey!

How to Programme Your RAS for Goal Achievement:

1. Set Clear, Specific Goals

(This is what happens in my Workshops and Trainings!)

The RAS responds to clarity.

  • Instead of: “I want to be healthier.”

Say: “I go to the gym 3 times a week and eat 150g of protein daily.”

  • Instead of: "I want a bigger income."

Say: “I will increase my business by 30% and have X amount of extra income each month/year”

Your brain now knows what to filter for —

Gym cues, meal options, fitness resources

Business opportunities, additional resources, a new training or course

2. Visualise the Goal Daily

Visualisation “primes” your RAS. (and is more powerful than Willpower)

  • SEE yourself achieving your goal vividly (using all senses)

  • Have an evidence procedure – what is the very last thing that has to happen for you to KNOW that you have achieved your goal?

  • FEEL the emotions of success — pride, joy, gratitude, pure happiness. Turn up       the intensity on these!

  • HEAR your future self talk.

This repetition teaches your RAS: “This matters.”

3. Use Affirmations

Positive, present-tense statements reinforce what your RAS should prioritise.Examples:

  • “I’m a confident, focused entrepreneur.”

  • “I attract and act on opportunities that grow my business.”

  • “I achieve any Goal that I set and create.”

The RAS begins noticing patterns and possibilities consistent with these beliefs.

4. Write Your Goals and Review Them Often

Writing your goals in pen helps to anchor your goals in your conscious and unconscious mind. Muscle Memory imprints the framework of your goal into your neurology.

Re-reading daily keeps your RAS tuned — like resetting a GPS every morning.

Yes – this is the Sat Nav to the future that you desire – and deserve!

5. Take Action (Reinforce Feedback Loops)

When you act on what your RAS highlights, it strengthens the filter.Your brain learns, “These signals are important — find more of them.”

Let’s recap on how to activate your RAS
